New Kid on the Block

Yes paapu I stole your post title..what are you going to do about it? Sue me??

Anyway so my little friend Anushka visited me early this week. I had a great time with her and asked even her mommy if I could keep her. She is just adorable and we are just totally smitten by her!

Of bed time stories

Some of you may be familiar with Punyakotis story.
Just a brief background..it is a story about a cow called Punyakoti who gets caught by a tiger who threatens to eat her. Punyakoti begs the tiger to let her go so that she can go home and bid her baby goodbye and request her friends to take care of him and she promises to return to the tiger. She tells the tiger that she has given him her word and that she never breaks her word. The tiger lets her go and she goes home, hugs her baby and kisses him goodbye. She tells her friends to take good care of the baby, to love him like their own and then she returns to the tiger. The tiger recognizes that she is a noble soul and lets her go back to her baby and they all live happily ever after.

When mommy tells me this story every night, she adds in bits about Punyakoti requesting her friends to take good care of her baby, to make idlis and dosas and pasta for her baby since he would miss that if his mommy went.

Last night when mommy was telling the story when she reached the part about how Punyakoti goes back to the tiger, I had a million dollar question...
If the tiger is hungry, why doesnt he eat the pasta and the idlis and the dosas that the friends make? Why does he have to eat Punyakoti????

Mommy was totally flummoxed! She hasnt come up with a good answer yet!

ps: If you can understand kannada, do see the video below. Its Punyakotis story in the form of a song. Mommy has such fond memories from her childhood when mamama would tell her and paapu this story and sing this song to them. She remembers cuddling in bed with her mommy and her sister and trying to stop the tears that would come when mamama would narate the part about Punyakoti bidding her soon to be orphaned baby goodbye.

Three generations of friendship!

How cool is that??!

My mamama and Arnavs mamama have been friends right from their school days, many many years ago.

And then in Santa Clara a few years ago, my mommy and Arnavs mommy, Kavita aunty realized that they stay less than 5 minutes away!! And the friendship that my mamama and Arnavs mamama started continued to the next generation!

Arnav and I have had a few play dates in Santa Clara and I was overjoyed to spend an evening with him yesterday!

Heres to the 3rd generation of friendship!

Here are some old pics from one of my playdates with Arnav

Ganpati bappa morya!

We celebrated Ganesh chaturthi with Rashmi aunty and her family. This was the first time I saw it done 'Konkani style'...The place was done up so beautifully and the food..oh the food was just awsome. I just LOVED all the konkani food! Mommy as most of you know doesnt really cook much of konkani food (she doesnt cook much of anything actually..but we will save that information for a separate post)..

I learnt that Ganpathi bappas brother is Kartikeya and NOT Arjun like I had assumed. Turns out Arjun is my bother not everyone elses..eh..you learn something new everyday!

Mommy turned into mush today..

..when I hugged her and said " You are my best mamma"!

The award for my favourite phrase goes to...

" You are not my friend"
Everytime mommy tells me to drink milk or to eat or to stop screaming or to stop jumping on the bed...thats what I say!

And in second place is
"daddy you are not my favourite"

Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

Mommy baked a batch of cookies last week..yes you read that correctly..Mommy baked!!!

I pigged out and ate a whole lot of the cookies.

These easy to bake cookies are a must try

3/4 c. firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 c. granulated sugar
1 egg
1 stick butter
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. all purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt (opt.)
3 c. Quaker Oats (quick or old fashioned, uncooked)

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Beat together butter and sugars until light and fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla. Combine flour, baking soda, salt and spices; add to butter mixture, mixing well. Stir in oats. Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 8 to 9 minutes for a chewy cookie, 10 to 11 minutes for a crisp cookie. Cool 1 minute on cookie sheet; remove to wire cooling rack. Store in tightly covered container. 4 1/2 dozen.

Staying home..Day 3

I have been home for the past 3 days and surprisingly its getting better. I have stopped whining as much and ever since mommy has shown me some new toys that miraculously appeared while I was sleepingg, I have been content playing with them and havent asked for Dora!
Guess who is sick ..again..
Yup bad cold..again.

Mommy has decided that Im going to stay home till Im better and till the whole swine flu situation settles down.

So what do I do at home all day???

I whine and moan and ask to see my friends. I ask (read demand) to see Doras World Adventure every waking moment of the day, I refuse to nap, I demand more cookies...Yeah mommy has been having fun lately!

Mommy aged 10 years over the weekend

I managed to get a butterfly shaped bead stuck up my nose.

I was playing by myself and came by to inform mommy that my butterfly was lost. Mommy thought it had rolled under the couch and was preparing to sweep it out when I informed her that I had stuffed the said butterfly up my nose.

We managed to get the offending object out and of course I threw a huge tantrum when mommy trashed it.

Never a dull moment around here!

Sugar and Spice...goes private

With the recent spate of incidents where pictures are being lifted from family blogs to be posted on adoption sites, mommy has decided that this blog has waaay too much personal information to be allowed to be public..so we have decided that it is going to be a private blog. If you wish to have access to it, please mail mommy and she will send you an invite.
